Alexis Goulet-Hanssens

Senior Manager, New Business Development, tesa SE

I completed my PhD in the Barrett lab, before leaving Canada to pursue a postdoc in the Hecht lab at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. After 2.5 years of postdoc, I decided to leave academia for an industry position. I got my first job at Beiersdorf working in a formula development lab making sunscreen for Nivea Sun. Over the five years I spent at Beiersdorf, I had a chance to rework our raw material portfolio, UV filter strategy as well as patent strategy, leading to the formulas which are now available for consumers across Europe. Thanks to this experience, I was motivated to improve my skills in strategy and took a position with the Boston Consulting Group as a chemicals expert consultant. In that role, I worked with project teams globally serving chemical clients across the entire value chain from raw materials to distributors with a focus on product-market fit and innovation strategy. A desire to work closer to the lab and molecules (but not in the lab, nor with molecules) led me to take my current role as a business development manager with tesa SE, where I look for new and growing markets where tesa can position itself and its products to achieve above market growth and profitability..
